About Us

Delhi has been prominent in every era for its heritage and centrality. It had the honor of being the capital even during that period of history while there was no concept of history writing at all. And since the era of history writing began its supremacy remained intact. The supremacy was not only at the national and political level but also in terms of the promotion of knowledge and literature Delhi held a distinct place. That is why when Islam and Muslims came to India the scholars and connoisseurs were warmly welcome by Delhi. And those legendary personalities of Islamic studies who once would live in Mecca, Madina, Egypt and Baghdad now they settled in Delhi. And thus Delhi also becomes a centre of Islamic studies. Alas! The evil eyes of the British made it hollow. Thousands of centers of learning settled on this land were destroyed and the few madrasas that remained were also like flickering lamp. It seems that ancient intellectual centrality of Delhi was forgotten. But how long will such cruel circumstances last. Finally nature showed mercy and the country was freed from the oppression and brutality of the British. Then the less privileged and weak ulama and huffaz started establishing madrasas. Jamia Arabia Shamsul Uloom is also a link to the same gold chain and a fruit bearing branch of the same shady tree.

Jamia Arabia Shamsul Uloom was established in 1391 Hijri corresponding to 1971 A.D. by the two great personalities Qari Zubair Ahmed Jamee and Maulana Shoaib Anjum filled with the spirit of serving Islamic sciences. It originated from Ajmeri gate Shah Tara Gali Masjid onchiwali, old Delhi. For many years the institution kept running in the same mosque and a few rooms. When the strength of Islamic students started increasing so the above mentioned rooms became insufficient and the need for a bigger place was felt. So after a lot of hard work the officials found a dilapidated old mosque near the Shahadra Railway Station in Delhi and a hut with a few dilapidated rooms next to it. And thus the madrasa was shifted to the current location from the Ajmeri gate.

At the time when this institution was moved to Shahdara Delhi there was only forest spreading far away around the dilapidated mosque. There was a limited population of non Muslims around it which still exists. The Muslim population was very far away. But now by the grace of Allah there is a large population of Muslims near Shahdara. Masha Allah now there are about 5 lakh Muslims living in the Shahdara region. The institution is progressing with the continuous efforts of the officials and teachers. In the beginning only the primary and memorization of the Quran sections were working. But by improving the quality of education more classes were established. In a short span of time education up to Fazilat (Bachelor in Islamic Studie) was introduced and along with Islamic sciences the English language, History, General Knowledge, Mathematics, Science etc. included in the curriculum up to Intermediate. Currently the institution is running in a three story building spanning over a land of 1200 square yards. On the existing campus the following departments are working under the Principal Office. Department of Islamic Studies, Department of Arabic Language, Department of Modern Education, Department for Memorization of the Quran, Department of Tajweed and Qirat, and The Library. In the last 43 years about 8000 students have benefited from the said departments and they are busy in teaching and social services at different places in and out of the country. Apart from the mentioned departments running under the Principal Office there are also other departments which are detailed under the departments. The literary and cultural activities are also held in the institution. The progress is in a phased manner. Today the institution is such a training centre from where on one hand people with right religious insight and religious fervor are groomed on the other good and faithful citizens are provided to the nation and community.
